As we engage in the year 2021, the Lord has spoken to my spirit. His word was Empowered to Engage. I was like, Lord, what does this mean? And then I asked what scripture will showcase this empowerment?
Now one can raise the question empowered to engage what? As I took the time to reflect on the message, I realize the thought was loaded with a lot of truth and power.
As we think about empowerment, we see where the world speaks about this on a constant basis in recent years and even more today.
So, what does empowerment mean in our world?
The oxford direction defines it as:
- authority or power is given to someone to do something.
- the process of becoming stronger and more confident, especially in controlling one’s life and claiming one’s rights.
If we break this down in our context.
- Empowerment. ability to do something about your needs, wants, opinions, beliefs, and feelings.
So,
- Economic Empowerment. how people work to create wealth.
- Political Empowerment. all the things we do to organize ourselves and to make decisions.
- Cultural Empowerment. … everyday things such as food, language, clothing, spiritual beliefs, and ideas.
- Societal Empowerment. … everything people do when they live, work, and play together.
- National Empowerment… a nation having the power to make decisions for itself.
What does this empowerment look like in our lives?
The Bible presents us with another perspective as Jesus shows how he empowers those around him. And later Jesus tells his disciple to wait in Jerusalem for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit which will empower us to make the journey. This January we meet for 21 days of prayer and fasting to seek the Lord as He Empowers us to be Holy.
